Information about Idris Malik’s current and past involvement in professional, volunteer, service, and student organizations

Grad Phi: NDSU Physics Grad Student Organization (2023-Present): I help prep workshops and demos for outreach events for elementary to high school students both on NDSU campus and at local school events. Here’s a picture of me while running a circuit building workshop at the 2025 Avenues of Scientific Discovery outreach event.
Physics Education Research Consortium of Graduate Students (PERCoGS) (2024-Present): As a spokesperson for PERCoGS, I help plan activities to build community for PER Grad students. This includes planning and hosting sessions at APS, AAPT, and PERC conferences, compiling information from surveys, organizing a newsletter, and maintaining a Discord server. Here’s a squad photo from a grad student writing group hour.

Physics Education Research Leadership and Organizing Council (PERLOC) (2025-2027): As the Graduate Student Representative for PERLOC, I attend meetings every other week and am responsible for representing the needs and interests of PER graduate students. This includes being the PERCoGS Liason, and keeping both PERLOC and PERCoGS members aware of what the other group is up to, to provide cross-organizational support of group efforts. I am also serve as project co-leads for Mini/Travel Grants and the PERTG Community Conversation series.
Society of Physics Students (Officer 2022-2023): I was the Treasurer of The Ohio State University chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma: The Physics Honor Society, and that beyond general officer meetings means I was responsible for club funding requests and the reimbursement process (ordering Pizza with OSU funding!)
I have also helped plan and run general meetings, invited professors to present talks on their research, and worked behind and on the scenes to help make the Ohio State Physics Lounge a more inclusive and welcoming place to students of all different Identities. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is very important to me, so I have helped some efforts by the Physics and Astronomy Undergraduate Community by being a Mentor in the Polaris Mentorship Program, helping plan a Town Hall regarding Physics Lounge Culture, and spearheading the effort to write a new Undergraduate / Physics Lounge Code of Conduct (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lFDqDXhvJnP1PVQD8jEvpwtukrzWSX8IOYIr1LeFG_I/edit?usp=sharing)
Some of my favorite meetings that I have helped run include a Presentation on creating a Science-Oriented Personal Website (like this one), talking about the community written Physics Lounge Code of Conduct (which I was a main organizer for), and a PowerPoint Night style analysis on Buffalo Wild Wings Density in different cities.
